Company Background

Rosmech was established in 1974 by Mr. Graham Treloar and has grown today to be Australia’s oldest and largest 100% Australian owned and operated road sweeper dealer. For many years Rosmech marketed the mechanical broom and elevator style Mobil Sweeper. Graham saw the need to broaden Rosmech’s product offering to cater for Australia’s maturing market and diverse conditions and undertook extensive travel and research to source a range of sweepers to complement the Mobil Sweeper.

By the late 1980’s suction sweeping had become more prevalent and the single engine Scarab Major suction sweeper was added to the range. Scarab Sweepers fast became recognised for being technologically advanced with the various models constantly evolving. The Scarab franchise has proven to be very popular for Rosmech with more than 300 units sold throughout Australia and New Zealand with the Scarab range come the corner stone of Rosmech’s business.

Operating from its own purpose built facility at Salisbury Plain, some 20 kilometres north of Adelaide CBD, Rosmech has sales and service staff located throughout Australia and whilst many councils and sweeping contractors maintain their own equipment, Rosmech maintains a team of skilled service and spare parts personnel to provide operator training, administer manufacturer’s warranty, provide spare parts, assist with fault finding and carry out maintenance.

After guiding the company for many years Graham Treloar retired in June 2000 handing over the reins to Rosmech’s new management team Colin Miller, Matthew Howe and Brett Laing. With a can do attitude Colin, Matthew and Brett set about the task of revitalising Rosmech.

The first step was to refine the Scarab Merlin single engine unit to give it broader market appeal. It was well known that the Scarab Merlin had significant operational, environmental and performance benefits however improved delivery times and a cab chassis with better acceptance and after sales support were essential if the Scarab Merlin was to be a long term player in the Australian sweeper market.

Working closely with Scarab’s head office in Kent, UK, Rosmech began to receive Scarab Merlin sweepers in kit form and set about assembling them onto the UD MK cab chassis at its Adelaide facility. UD Trucks Australia provided Rosmech with their full support for this project, and together with the extensive UD dealer network throughout Australia the UD MK mounted Scarab Merlin proved to be an extremely popular choice for the fastidious sweeper owner.

With the move to the UD cab chassis the Scarab Merlin now features a quality mirror image dual steer conversion utilising twin steering boxes and incorporating fully integrated air conditioning utilising the dash vents. Rosmech undertakes all of this work in house at its Adelaide facility. Delivery times have been reduced and sales success and customer feedback for the Australian built Scarab Merlin has been overwhelming and extremely pleasing for all involved in the project.

In line with feedback received from some customers who were impressed by the new UD mounted Scarab Merlin but wanted the option of an automatic chassis, Scarab, Rosmech and UD joined forces to bring the UD mounted Scarab Mistral to the Australian market. The Mistral is a conventional twin engine unit which suits many operators who have cut their teeth in twin engine units and prefer the automatic transmission. The Mistral has proven to be extremely popular and has opened up a whole new range of customers to Rosmech and with the added benefit that it can also be mounted on the Hino cab chassis.

In 2007 Rosmech’s management as Graham Treloar had done 30 years earlier travelled overseas to source product to complement the Scarab range. They were impressed by the innovative products manufactured by the French company Mathieu a subsidiary of the large French owned Fayat Group. The culmination was the appointment in early 2008 of Rosmech as the Australian dealer for Mathieu, with this appointment came access to the Azura range which includes which includes the Azura 2000 footpath/precinct sweeper and the Aquazura scrubber/drier. The addition of the Azura units have complemented Rosmech’s Scarab offering and have enabled Rosmech to continue to grow its profile and product offering in the market.

In line with its earlier commitment to Scarab Sweepers and to increase its footprint in the Oceania region in early 2009 Rosmech officially commenced operations in New Zealand with the appointment of Pete Collings as Product Support Manager. This has been an exciting time for the Rosmech group as the expansion across the Tasman is evidence of a continued growth strategy and commitment within the road sweeping industry within the Oceania region.

In the quest to further consolidate its position at the forefront in the sweeper industry Rosmech management continued to seek out innovative products to complement its existing range. The revolutionary Egholm 2200 multi purpose utility machine has been identified as being likely to have a broad appeal in Rosmech’s various markets and adds to the range of stylish, quality European equipment offered by Rosmech. The Egholm 2200 will be launched in Australia in 2010 and Rosmech’s management are confident that it will be highly successful.

With more than 35 years in business, an excellent range of quality equipment and prompt, professional after sales support the future looks bright for Rosmech in the Australian sweeper sales business.
